Krasnodar, 3 March. The contractors have reportedly started to clear riverbeds in five Kuban municipalities.

The works are being performed at 12 water sectors of the total length of 26 km, including: the Pshekha River in Apsheronsk Rayon, the Kuban River in Abinsk Rayon, the Belaya River in Belorechensk Rayon, the Little Laba river in Mostovskoi Rayon, and the Mzymta and Kudepsta Rivers in Sochi.

Since 2020, bottom deepening and silt control works have been performed by regional and municipal services, and specialized commercial organizations.

“A considerable area of the [Krasnodar] region is exposed to emergency risks related to floods, but the piedmont and mountain areas are the most floodable zones. In 2021, we set a task to identify the riskiest spots of the water facilities and to employ specialized organizations with subsequent use of the bottom silt for municipal needs, for instance, for landscaping and road works,” Vice Governor Sergei Boldin said.
