Krasnodar, 6 March – Yug Times. The current Chairman of the Bar Council of the Krasnodar region Artur Kolesnikov decided to defend people in courts of law when he was at secondary school. He got his first client when being a third-year law student of the Kuban State University. It was a land dispute. How could it happen that the case was committed to a student? The future advocate knew well the civil and the land law - that was why he was requested to put the case on the injured person’s behalf. And that was the right decision indeed: due to competent evidentiary basis, he managed to earn the sought award. Since then, Artur Kolesnikov has for over ten years been defending other people’s rights. Presently, deceived co-owners of apartment construction projects constitute a big part of his clientele. Sometimes he defends interests of developing companies that found themselves on the wrong side of the bar - because of some minor offence that should not be part of criminal liability.
“It occurs that some 50 to 70 deceived apartment co-owners would come to court to ask to let their developer free,” Artur says.
Over the years of his law practice, Kolesnikov has dealt with different cases, like international drug trafficking or cases against law enforcement officers and popular politicians. In addition to advocacy, he is an active public figure. He heads the Commission on public control, counteraction to corruption, and cooperation with law enforcement officers and the Public Supervisory Commission, working under the aegis of the regional Civic Chamber. He acknowledges that he and his colleagues are always trying to work together with the regional parliament to learn the real problems of the local people.
