Krasnodar, 30 August – Yug Times. On August 22, the Sochi Symphonic Orchestra reportedly opened its 18th concert season.
The lively program presented to the audience of the Winter Theatre was called “20th Century - 21st Century: A Russian Music Bridge”. It consisted of the pieces that had never been played in Sochi before.
Tikhon Khrennikov, a grandson and full namesake of the famous Soviet composer and an excellent pianist and composer himself, took part in the concert as its guest performer. He played his grandfather’s last piano concerto, written at the age of 78, and the Sochi Orchestra played his concerto for saxophone with orchestra (soloist - Yekaterina Kulagina, a laureate of many prestigious international awards).
In the upcoming season, Anton Lubchenko, artistic director of the orchestra, promises to prepare six new programs that will bring the Sochi Symphonic Orchestra out to a new professional level.
