Krasnodar, 24 August – Yug Times. A hope sprang up in the dweller of Krasnodar that their pains would end quite soon and they would be able to switch from the stuffy buses into more spacious and convenient trams.

The Mayor’s Office announced that they began to work on the issue of construction of new tramways into new residential neighbourhoods of the city. What was at issue was first of all the Muzykalny, Vostochno-Kruglikovsky and Gidrostroitelny neighbourhoods, where high-rise apartment buildings with dozens of thousands of dwellers rose up over the past ten to fifteen years. The Mayor’s Office is seriously thinking about laying tramways to these communities. It is the city’s Department for Transport and Road Facilities, and the Department for Architecture and Urban Planning that are presently working on the project. Their experts are analysing the potential tram routes, the land plots for them, and how this land may be used to develop the city’s public transport infrastructure.

“For Krasnodar trams are the most important means of transport, and bearing in mind the traffic load of the city’s roads it is a strategic task to develop the tram network,” Mayor Yevgeni Pervyshov said, speaking at a conference devoted to the issue of development of tramways in Krasnodar. “Now we should work out the routes, prepare the documents and the projects.” It’s a big amount of work to do for the Mayor’s Office, which goes far beyond the need to withdraw land plots. But all this work must be done - otherwise the city would not be able to develop and accumulate its investment potential.
