Krasnodar, 19 June – Yug Times. A lot of young people in Krasnodar actively tattoo themselves with colourful designs. What for? For some, tattoos are a way of self-expression, whiles for others they are something very personal and filled with some hidden meaning.

Tattoo-master Yakov Moskalenko says that although a fashion for certain tattoos is fickle, there exists a backbone of most sought-after styles - classic designs, Japanese motifs, and realism. A tattooist’s work is not merely to mark a part of somebody’s body with some design; it is also a skill of communication and even persuasion. For instance, speaking of the anatomic positioning of a tattoo, a professional tattooist would always prompt the right place to put it. Say, realistic designs look better on the arms, shoulders or chest. Geometric ornaments would match symmetrical parts of the body. There are other designs that, quite the contrary, need asymmetry. In Russia, tattooing has developed so high that it has become a mainstream and a ready business idea.

On the whole, the society is becoming more and more tolerant to their tattooed compatriots. Moreover, now people tend to make really beautiful tattoos. Average people get to know that tattooing has overcome the meaning ‘to spoil one’s skin’ and the criminal world. A tattoo now is being viewed as a piece of art.
