Zurab Buskandze, an inventor and entrepreneur from Krasnodar, says that he cannot find common language with the officials meant to support innovations.

“All my projects have this or that way been related to construction equipment. For instance, I knew of the drawbacks in the work of the hydrohammers used to drive piles for the construction of high-rise buildings.

“Most of the pile-driving hammers used in the region were made in China. Their main advantage is their lower price if compared with the Western-made ones. That’s good – but their control blocks may often break down. So my customers asked me to repair them – but one day I decided to concentrate on the idea how to eliminate the drawbacks. My idea was to get a Russian-made control box connected to the China-made hammers. And I drew a new hydrohammer control system which is now ready to be launched for industrial production.

“But to get my project implemented, I have to pass an expert examination that would assess the efficiency of my innovation and its prospects for future. I have applied to Skolkovo, the Russian Venture Company, etc. – but often they would send common managers to talk to me, not the experts with due technological knowledge.

“It would be as if I as an engineer would assess some dissertations in, say, philosophy.
In my opinion, for the innovators it would more efficient to open some experimental production grounds, where production engineer may assess the availability of an innovation and give advice on its further improvement and probably preparation to serial production.”
