“It is our inhabitants that we are proud of in the first place. For it’s owing to their initiative and diligence that many our enterprises are developing actively despite crisis, letting us fully collect taxes to the local budget which in its turn means resolve the social problems.”
Q.: For the second year running, Russia has been paying peculiar attention to import substitution. How are you working on it in the Kavlazsky rayon?
A.: We have built 8 ha of pothouses – quite a substitution for the Turkish tomatoes, isn’t it? The rayon administration helps all who want to take up greenhouse vegetable growing.
African hog cholera considerably destroyed our livestock a couple of years ago, but now the Dmitrievskoe Farm keeps 1,500 head of pigs and plans to bring it to 3,000. They really have a high level of protection [against the diseases]. They achieving it, the rayon will fully cover its demand for pork meat.
Q.: How do you work with investors?
A.: Every year we take part in the Sochi [Investment] Forum – say, last year we presented there 24 investment sites. We fully understand that without investment we will not be able to develop competently. That is why we work with potential investors on an everyday basis, not during the Forum only.
Q.: How does the rayon administration support the local entrepreneurs? How do you provide them with conditions for sustainable development?
A.: In my opinion, the main problem all new entrepreneurs are facing is that they need some startup capital. In crisis conditions the banks are very cautious to give loans; and the borrowers are often scared by too high bank interest.
