Krasnodar, 16 August – Yug Times. The construction of modern breakwaters has reportedly begun in Sochi.

The first of the nine metal frames has been installed on the Mayak (Lighthouse) beach. The frames will become the base of the future breakwaters. The weight of each frame exceeds 16 tonnes. A truck-mounted crane with a lifting capacity of 120 tonnes, floating docks, engineering pontoons and precise calculations were required to install the structure undersea. In the future, eight more frames will be put up at a distance of 20 centimetres from each other. They will be filled with natural boulders from the Sochi quarry, each weighing 5 to 7 tonnes. As a result, at a distance of 150 metres from the shore, a modern hydraulic structure will appear, able to protect the beaches from erosion for at least a hundred years.

"This is the first stage of Primorskaya Embankment improvement," the resort city's press service reported. "It includes the erection of deep-water breakwaters near the Mayak beach. The old breakwaters will be dismantled after the summer season.
