Krasnodar, 20 February – Yug Times. The number of surprise inspections checking illegal sewage discharges will reportedly be increased in Sochi. The activities will be carried out more frequently starting from March of this year, Mayor's Office press office reported.

In 2023, over 2,000 inspections were conducted in the city to identify the facts of illegal wastewater discharge. The monitoring groups were composed of officials from the district administrations, local Urban Management Office, police officers and representatives of Rospotrebnadzor, Russian consumner safety watchdog.

"When preparing for the holiday season, environmental safety issues are taken under special control. It is necessary to strengthen the work with the city's enterprises and companies engaged in the removal of untreated sewage, and to draw up a schedule of inspections on illegal taps,"said the head of Sochi Alexei Kopaigorodsky.

In Sochi, more than 20 companies are engaged in the disposal of untreated wastewater from the private sector and local waste treatment plants. It goes to five technically prepared and fully equipped sites built at sewage treatment facilities.
