Krasnodar, 2 February. Our today’s guest is Ludmila Chumak, Director of the Krasnodar Regional Registry Office.

Q.: How did the number of registered marriages change in 2022 compared with 2021 and before the pandemic?

A.: In 2022, the registry offices in our region registered 47,400 marriages, which was by nearly 5,000 more than in 2021. In 2019, before the pandemic, about 42,200 marriages were registered in the Krasnodar Region. In 2020, when the coronavirus restrictions were introduced, this number climbed down to 33,900. However, then the number of marriages returned to the pre-pandemic level.

Q.: Increase of the number of divorces was a national trend in 2022. Is this also the trend for Krasnodar Krai?

A.: We also registered an increase of this factor – last year, nearly 2,000 more divorces were registered than in 2021. It is worth noting that the year 2020 slowed down the growth of divorces – in the midst of the pandemic, the number of divorces fell by 6% compared with 2019 (from 27,300 down to 25,700).

Q.: How did the number of marriages concluded with foreign nationals change last year? Citizens of what countries did prevail in their total structure?

A.: Despite the increase of the absolute number of marriages, that of cross-national marriages fell by 16.2% in 2022 compared with 2021 (from 2,900 down to 2,400). Most frequently, such marriages were registered with nationals of Armenia, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

Q.: Which wedding registry offices are the most popular in our region?

A.: Undoubtedly, the Yekaterininsky Hall in Krasnodar is the most sought-after registry office. In 2022, 6,800 couples were registered there. The trio of the most popular registry offices is supplemented by the Novorossiysk City Registry Office and Central Registry Office in Sochi – 2,500 and 2,400 registered marriages, respectively.
