Krasnodar, 8 September. Our today’s guest is Maksim Sekachev, General Manager of Gorki Krasnodar Academic Drama Theatre.
Q.: You entered the office quite recently, just four months ago. Why did you accept the invitation?
A.: The circumstances were such that for eight years I had been heading the Music, Drama and Comedy Theatre in my native city, Novouralsk. We had made a long and interesting way together with the team of that theatre. Then I decided to return to my previous job at the Novouralsk City District Administration, and got a promotion – but it happens that when you have already achieved some heights, you start thinking whether or not it is your calling. In my case, I concluded that creative personalities better correspond to my spirit, my competence and my working goals. This is why I returned to theatre in 2021. I arrived at Krasnodar in April. It was quite a serious selection process, done in two stages.
Q.: What did you feel when you crossed the threshold of the Krasnodar Theatre?
A.: On one hand, I was feeling some elevated excitement; on the other hand I was proud that I was partaking to a theatre with a strong troupe, rich history and solid traditions. For me as the general manager, the most important thing is to preserve and multiply the traditions that were set up earlier. I always say that I take the way of evolutionary rather than revolutionary progress. Otherwise, one may do damage by some fast and awkward actions.
Today it is important to hold a competent monitoring, or I would say systemic analysis of the current state of affairs – both in the economic indicators of the work of the theatre, and in the tools it uses to cooperate with the spectators.
Besides, it is important to improve the material resources. We are doing it with active support of the regional Ministry of Culture and regional administration. In particular, we are now installing air-conditioning systems. Bearing in mind the local climate, I think this is a priority task. We are reorganizing the hall – repairing the floor and replacing the chairs.
