Krasnodar, 7 September. Additional 20 million roubles have reportedly been assigned in Sochi for palm trees spraying.
At the beginning of the year, over nine million roubles were allocated to spray green plantation for pests and diseases. To date, over three thousand palm trees have been sprayed. At the cost of the additional money, nearly 7,000 trees will undergo six-time pest treatment.
“A large-scale municipal program ‘Protection of environment’ has been developed in Sochi. It includes stock taking of the trees and shrubs, fight with plant pests and diseases, remedial landscaping, and establishment of local conservation areas,” Rostislav Goncharov, Director of the Sochi City Department for Environmental Protection, Aesthetic Forestry, Agriculture and Industry, explained.
The palm trees that cannot be saved due to their excessive contamination with pests are being felled down. The trunks are being ground to chips to kill the larvae. To date, about 2,000 deadwood palm trees have been discarded.
