Krasnodar, 13 Мay. The Department of Phytosanitary Control will reportedly be formed at Sochi City Hall.
Green plantations in the city are known to be suffering from pests for several years already. Last week, the City Hall hosted a conference to discuss how to fight with them efficiently.
“During the Year of Ecology, it is important to preserve and augment the green canopy of the resort [city], and to fight for every single tree. It is necessary to develop a network of plant nurseries to be able to plant locally-grown saplings. [It is necessary] to organize prophylactic work with housing and communal services and instruct specialists how to treat green plantations. Also, by instruction of Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology Aleksandr Kozlov, and together with specially protected areas we continue fighting the invasive pests,” Sochi Mayor Aleksei Kopaigorodsky stressed.
Meanwhile, uprooting of the palm trees that perished from the pests has finished in the Central and Lazarevsky Districts, the City Hall’s press service informed. The trees were disposed of with the help of extruders to annihilate the larvae of invasive insects
