Honors given to the patron of the army

Krasnodar, 17 September. In Krasnodar celebrations were held in honor of the 800th anniversary of Alexander Nevsky. 

The solemnity took place in the Military Cathedral dedicated to the Holy Great Prince. The service was attended by the Ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Society Nikolai Doluda and the vice-governor of the region, ataman of the Kuban Cossack Troops, Alexander Vlasov, both Cossacks.

 - Each Cossack army traditionally has a patron saint, his day is celebrated as the main army holiday - said Alexander Vlasov. - For Kuban Cossacks it is the Saint Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky. This year is special. We celebrate 800 years from the day of his birth. The goal we are striving for today is the preservation and development of Cossack spirit and traditions, the strengthening of Orthodox faith, and the nurturing of patriotism among the youth. 

The solemn service was led by Gregory, Metropolitan of Ekaterinodar and Kuban. 

According to the regional Department of Cossack Affairs, since the beginning of the year more than 500 different manifestations and events dedicated to the 800th anniversary of Alexander Nevsky have been conducted by the regional societies of Kuban Cossack as well as the Union of Cossack Youth of Kuban. More than 70 thousand Kuban residents took part in them.
