Krasnodar, 18 February. Speaking with journalists about the preparation to the spring sowing and the current condition of winter crops in the region, Governor Veniamin Kondratiev noted that the date of beginning of this year’s sowing campaign will to a big extent depend upon the weather. The plan for spring crops is 1.8 million hectares, including nearly 740,000 hectares of cereal and leguminous crops. According to Mr. Kondratiev, the farmers are supplied with the seeds, and they are actively preparing the fertilizers.
“This year, spring crops will be sown in the same area as last year,” he said. “We are planning to increase planting of sugar beet, pea and such export-oriented cultures as soya and winter rapeseed – altogether by more than 70,000 hectares. It will help the region increase its export supplies and achieve the targets set by the national project ‘International cooperation and export’.” The bulk of agricultural exports from the Kuban region is now falling on cereal crops.
