Krasnodar, 5 January. Several wildland fires were registered in Krasnodar krai during the New Year holidays. They all were located in the areas with a high recreation load. According to the regional forestry monitoring service, on January 1 till 3, the forest fireproof brigades put out ten forest fires in the area of 47.16 hectares, including two fires in protected areas of the Sochi National Park. Most of the fires burnt in Tuapse rayon. A special firefighting regime was introduced in Tuapse and Sochi. To prevent outbreaks of forest fires, the relevant bodies must strengthen patrolling of the forests and adjacent territories, and have the required forces and facilities at hand to be able to put out the possible fires, the Russian Forestry Agency stated.
The fight with the fire in the Sochi National Park continued on January 4. The latest ignition on that day was recorded at Mount Chornaya near the village of Sergei Pole. The fire does not present a threat to local dwellers and their homes.
Lieutenant General Oleg Volynkin, Head of the regional branch of Ministry of Emergency Situations, the natural fires in Sochi arose due to local dwellers’ negligence. Governor Veniamin Kondratiev wrote in his social network account that the fires had been caused by pyrotechnics.
