Krasnodar, 31 January – Yug Times. Last week, Kuban Cossacks gathered to take part in a reporting meeting of the Host Ataman – to evaluate the results of their work and determine the strategies for further development of the Cossack movement in the Kuban region and nationwide. The meeting summoned 1,100 delegates, including 400 elected Cossacks, and 557 atamans (Cossack chieftains) of various levels. In his report delivered to the audience, Host Ataman Nikolai Doluda presented figures that demonstrated the amount of work carried out during the past years. For instance, at the beginning of the rebirth of the Cossack movement, there used to be only one Cossack secondary school in the region. Now there are 4,500 Cossack classes and 17 Cossack kindergartens in Kuban.
The number of Cossacks reached 55,000. There are voluntary Cossack squads involved in protection of public order, forests and the state border, and in emergency relief operations.
“Working as the Kuban Cossack Host Ataman for twelve years, I am grateful to all who have been supporting me in coming-to-be and development of Cossack societies in the Kuban region that became a reliable foundation of the Russian Cossack Host. I would like to express my great gratitude to those Cossacks who stood at the origins of the rebirth of the Kuban Cossack movement, and distinguish a peculiar role of Cossacks in defence of their Fatherland. Cossacks have always been and will always be warriors!” Mr. Doluda noted.
In his speech at the meeting, Governor Veniamin Kondratiev said that today it is necessary to develop the system of Cossack education and perfect the economy so that the Cossack societies become absolutely self-sufficient. Presently, Cossack communities dispose of 22,000 hectares of agricultural lands. Owing to Nikolai Doluda, the Kuban Cossack movement changed a lot – it took real steps forward in all directions, and passed through the process of formation, Mr. Kondratiev said.
He also mentioned that Cossacks had been integrated in power bodies, appointed deputy municipal heads to be able to help develop the regional economy.
Speaking to the audience, Chair of the regional Legislative Assembly Yuri Burlachko reminded them about the effective cooperation between the legislative power and the Kuban Cossack Host built up together with Ataman Doluda.
At the meeting, Nikolai Doluda resigned from the office and passed the Ataman’s mace to his first deputy, Cossack Colonel Nikolai Pervakov who will be acting ataman for six months until a new Cossack leader is elected. Besides, the delegates of the meeting adopted a new structure of the Kuban Cossack Host and approved the agenda for the year 2020. The session ended with a first performance of the anthem of the all-Russian Cossack Host.
