Krasnodar, 6 August – Yug Times. Kuban Governor’s Cup, the main event of the horserace season, were held last Saturday in Krasnodar.
Twelve jockeys took part in the 2,400 m race. They rode threeyear-old and older thoroughbreds born in Krasnodar province and Adyghea. The winners’ pot was 3 million roubles.
Welcoming the participants and the guests of the derby, Governor Veniamin Kondratiev noted that Kuban Cossacks had not imagined their lives without a horse, they had taught their kids to sit in the saddle, so that they would grow as real men and defenders of their Fatherland.
“Krasnodar krai has always been renowned for pedigreed horses that were valued for their speed, endurance, strength and beauty. And nowadays many horses that take award-winning places are born in our region. Kuban has revived the old traditions and become the leading horse-breeding region nationwide. Thereby, we took another important step towards our historical background,” Mr. Kondratiev said.
This year, the Horse Race for the Grain-Growers’ Prize in honour of the record harvest resumed after a several-year hiatus.
