Krasnodar, 6 June – Yug Times. On the eve of the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratiev gives an exclusive interview to The Yug Times weekly:
“Today, investment activity is becoming one of major impetuses for regional development. The Kuban region today tops the rating of the Southern Federal District on the volume of invited investments and is the sixth best region for investments nationwide.
“How did we achieve this? We began with ourselves. W developed the Strategy for region’s development until 2030, which in many respects coincided with the May
Presidential decree. We determined the priorities in agriculture, industry, tourism and transport - this simplifies the investors’ work a lot. That is - we are letting them know that if they decide to invest in the processing industry, all-year-round recreation facilities, and development of import-substituting enterprises, they will get all possible aid of the Kuban region.
“In 2016-2018, over 1.4 trillion roubles in investment were raised by the regional economy. Notwithstanding the sanctions, foreign investments are also showing good dynamics - in 2017, we got USD 1.8 billion, or by 1.4 times more than a year before.
“But we must look a bit wider at the changing situation in the areas where large-scale projects are being implemented. For instance, in March we opened a new metalware shop at the Abinsk Electrmetallurgical Plant. For inhabitants of Abinsk as well as the neighbouring Krymsk and Slaviansk rayons, this first of all means 600 new jobs, stable wages, and confidence in the future.
“In Temriuk rayon, much of the problem of unemployment will be resolved due to the construction of an industrial park at the port of Taman. The international investor, Michael Litvak has already invested USD 3.5 billion in the project. By 2021, the sum will have reached USD 8 billion, with 15,000 new jobs. This is a historic and breakthrough project for the entire province.
“The main problem we are currently dealing with is how to remove the infrastructural restrictions.
“At the [Economic] Forum in Sochi, an agreement on the construction of a power station was signed, which will help resolve the issue of power deficiency in the south-western part of the region and back up the stable work of the Crimean electric power system. The cost of this project exceeds 27 billion roubles.
“In Temriuk rayon, windpower engineering will be developing. This is not a fast process, but we do understand all its prospects. Besides, new solar power stations will be built in the Kuban region of the total capacity of 88.2 MW.
“The presentation of our stand [at the St. Petersburg Forum] will have 58 investment project to the total amount of more than 300 billion roubles. Most of them - 34 projects - are of high importance for the development of our economic zones.”
