The recent clinical epidemiological data proved that allergy has become widely spread in many Russian regions. About 15 to 35% of the population are susceptible to different allergies, and the incidence rate is growing. We asked Natalia Fedotova, chief freelance allergist-immunologist of the regional Ministry of Health Care, head of the Krasnodar regional allergology centre at the Regional Clinic Hospital No. 1, to describe the symptoms of allergy and recount why it appears and how to prevent and to treat it.
Q.: Why do people suffer from allergies?
A.: A lot of various factors may cause allergy - plant fl owering, sunrays, cold air, physical activity, bites of insects, food products, mould, animals’ epidermis or scurf, medicines or metals. Most frequent manifestations of allergic diseases are running or itching nose, stuffi ness in nose, sneezing, red or itchy eyes, body itch and enanthesis, cough, heavy breathing, rattling sounds and choking fi ts.
