Krasnodar, 17 October – Yug Times. Three airports in the Kuban region - Krasnodar, Anapa and Sochi - will be named in honour of outstanding compatriots.
Altogether, 45 Russian air hubs are going to take part in the project entitled “Russia’s Great Names.” The choice of the names will be a staged procedure. The long-list of the candidates will be presented on October 11-21. The following week, residents of the respective regions will have a chance to suggest their variant and submit it to the project website or hotline telephone number. By November 7, the all-Russia Centre for Public Opinion Research will determine three short-listers for each airport, based on the opinion polls. A national voting will be held from November 8 until 30, and the winners will be announced on December 5.
The choice of the name will be subject to several conditions. For instance, the candidate should have a historical link with the respective area, and he or she cannot be a politician that lived in the last 100 years. Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratiev noted that this project would be a good way to let the people remember their history through great names.
