Krasnodar, 17 October – Yug Times. On October 14, the Krasnodar region celebrated the Day of Kuban Cossacks and the 322nd anniversary of the formation of the Kuban Cossack Host. On the Day of the Protection of the Virgin, Cossacks of eight regiments and one district of the Kuban Cossack Host together with schoolchildren gathered for the ceremonial line-up.
The Kuban Cossack Host currently unites nearly 54,000 defenders of the Kuban land. Over 90,000 of young Cossacks, students of Cossack military schools instil confidence in the future of the Cossack movement. And their confidence is transferred to all other people of the Kuban land, who understand that our youth will help us overcome all adversities. Nikolai Doluda, Vice Governor of the Krasnodar region and Ataman of the Kuban Cossack Host, visited the festive procession held in the stanitsa (Cossack village) of Brukhovetskaya, a stronghold of Cossack traditions.
“Our common aim is to see our Fatherland flourish, to safeguard our friends and relatives,” Vladimir Musatov, Head of the Brukhovetsky district, said. “I want to thank you for the future of our children that will be tightly connected with our native land.” Open air celebrations, as usual, were a big part of the festivity. In Brukhovetskaya, the venue of the celebrations was the skansen called Cossack Island, where the guests were treated with folk dishes and entertained with Cossack equestrian performances.
The Day of Kuban Cossacks was widely celebrated throughout the region. It showed that folk traditions, customs and – what is most important – courage and preparedness to defend the native land will keep unbroken the thread of history that ties together the past, the present and the future of the Kuban region.
