Krasnodar, 19 September – Yug Times. For the second time, Krasnodar has become the venue for a festival of science, technologies and arts. The 30th Anniversary of Great Victory Park hosted well-known scholars, science enthusiasts, musicians and all lovers of programming, intellectual games and cosplays.

One site for over 30 activities to any taste – that is a short definition of the Geek Picnic festival held on September 15 and 16 in Krasnodar. The program for kids included mental arithmetic, high-speed reading, computer games, and learning such unusual skills as 3D-printer modelling, robot programming, and production of electricity from fruit and vegetables.

The program for adults was even wider – starting from quests and archery and finishing with a drone race. Hundreds of ‘personages’ from anime films and literary works took part in a picturesque cosplay. Four thousand visitors came to the festival on Saturday, and four thousand more on Sunday, despite the rain and queues at the entrance – so much they wanted to acquire new knowledge and dive in the world of anime and computer technologies.

One of the Geek Picnic’s sites was given to the popular intellectual game What? Where? When? Aleksandr Druz, the quizmaster, said that despite the entertaining character of the game, the players showed a good level of knowledge.

Krasnodar Mayor Yevgeni Pervyshov who also visited the event said that he was very much interested by such an unusual but at the same time useful recreation activity. “Despite the rain, many people came, which proves the popularity of the festival,” he said. “It means that our city needs such positive and cognitive activities, and we will be supporting them.” Mayor’s high mood as well as the townsfolk’s interest to the event give us hope that the Geek Picnic will become a traditional event in Krasnodar.
