Krasnodar, 16 August – Yug Times. Our today’s interviewee is Sergei Myasishchev, First Deputy Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Krasnodar region.

Q.: The Krasnodar region is known to be in the lead as regards the number and the quality of sports infrastructure. How much does the region spend to maintain and develop it?

A.: The construction boom in the sports sphere began in 2006. We were building ice palaces, swimming pools, and big sports complex worth of up to 200 million roubles. As a matter of fact, practically each municipality now has suchlike object. It gave us a mighty impetus for the development of sports in Kuban, which is why we have for four years in a row been holding the first place nationwide in the development of physical culture. Now the governor sets the task to have sports developed not only in such big cities as Krasnodar, Sochi and Armavir, but also in small villages and towns with the population of 10,00015,000. Therefore, now we are oriented to the construction of low-budget sports complexes worth of about 20 to 30 million roubles.

Since the beginning of 2017, six such complexes have been commissioned. They all have a multifunctional sports arena that may be used for volleyball, basketball, handball and mini-football, as well as for wrestling and rhythmic gymnastics. The regional budget has allocated money for the construction of twenty gyms of the kind. I believe that such complexes will be built in all Kuban towns and villages in a couple of years.

Q.: What are the results of the regional power’s social course aimed at active popularisation of healthy way of life?

A.: Healthy way of life has become a fashionable trend in Kuban - much due to the Ready for Labour and Defence complex (the physical culture training program that worked in the USSR and was reintroduced in Russia last year). One should be keeping himself or herself fit to pass the simple standards in running, jumping, shooting, grenade throwing, and swimming. It’s not difficult if you go in for sports for at least three times a week - you would easily see how your health has improved. Since the beginning of the program in 2017, we have opened 55 test centres in all municipalities. Nearly a half of the participants have passed all tests successfully with the first attempt. Of those who did it, 20% were awarded a golden badge, 40% got a silver badge, and 40% received a bronze one.
