Even the Olympic Games, considered the world’s most important sports event, are in fact just the oldest international contest, while it is the Mundial that’s the global No. 1 sports event. This fact is proved economically – if the IOC’s receipts from each Olympic Games equal to 3 billion dollars, including tickets, sponsorships, ads, etc., FIFA’s income is twice as large – all due to the popularity of football, so that Moscow, Sochi and a dozen other Russian cities may rightfully considered as current global capitals that rivet everyone’s attention. And it is not an exaggeration.
According to official data, the Russian World Cup will bring FIFA a record revenue of around 6.1 billion dollars, or 1.3 billion more than that of the previous Mundial in Brazil in 2014.
