Krasnodar, 19 April – Yug Times. Ivan Chirov’s tactfulness, education, good manners and stage culture are above praise. It would be erroneous to call him either a tragic or a comic actor. Chirov is a bouquet, a colourful palette, though he says that he feels himself most comfortable in dramas. What he in fact carries with him is pure theatre, without any bombast or playing for show.
When he graduated from Shchukin Drama School in Moscow, he was seen as a neuropath, which had always been a rare theatrical type. But what a provincial troupe usually needs is a universal actor, able to play Chekhov, Ibsen or some New Year corporate party’s character. But even then, the main question is how honest you are in your profession, and whether or not you may be losing your class and professionalism while playing so diverse roles. Chirov was an exception to the rule. He is much more than a diligent actor - he is a highly decent and honest professional. His attitude to trade is so impeccably upright that potboiler and hypocrisy are nothing but avoiding him. Since he began working for the Krasnodar Youth Theatre in 1999, Ivan Chirov has risen to remarkable heights of wisdom and spiritual generosity.
Owing to his organicity, peculiar intonation and intuition, Chirov is able to fill up even a despairingly dull play with artistry.
