Krasnodar, 8 February – Yug Times. Last week, the US has announced a ‘blacklist’ of politicians and businesspeople that may soon become subject to personal sanctions. The list contains two names that are well known in the Kuban region.
Among the 210 participants of the US Treasury’s list of 114 political figures and 96 oligarchs, there are Minister of Agriculture and former Kuban Governor Aleksandr Tkachev and businessman Sergei Galitsky, the owner of the Magnit retail chain and FC Krasnodar. We asked Gennadi Podlesny, director of the Centre of Applied Social and Political Studies, to explain why they were included in the list.
“I was not surprised to find Aleksandr Tkachev there. He is a member of the [Russian] Cabinet of Ministers, which for the US is a kind of malevolent collective mind always looking how to disturb America.
“Briefly speaking, all our Ministers are considered enemies of the American nation. Minister of Agriculture Aleksandr Tkachev ranks high among them - according to American logics, he must be on the list just because he is responsible for Russia’s food security. “Why did Sergei Galitsky appear on the list? He is not a minister; moreover, he himself said more than once that he is an entrepreneur, not a politician. Here it is very important that Sergei Galitsky’s company is the biggest national retailer. What is more, his structure, unlike two other leading players in this market, is registered in Russia. Consequently, he pays taxes here, and not somewhere in the West or offshore.
“That is, [his] company financially supports our public health, education, army, etc. So, of course, Washington considers Galitsky an enemy.”
