ЮГ Times. Ninety per cent of tea marketed as ‘Krasnodar Tea’ and sold in the Krasnodar region is a fake, stated the participants of a roundtable held last week in Sochi. It was the gathering arranged by the business circles and authorities to discuss the implementation of the regional law on the development of tea-growing in the Krasnodar region.

The participants of the meeting stated that the tea-growing industry is in a sorry plight. Reportedly, the total area of the barren land that may be used for tea-growing reaches 3,000 hectares.

“It is unprofitable to plant new tea bushes or to clear the hillsides for new plantations – the cost is about 2.5 to 3 million rubles per hectare,” said Dmitri Tomko, Dagomyschai Director General. “Even our biggest tea-growers can afford to restore just 15 to 20 hectares.”
