ЮГ Times. It was on August 11, 2006 that a dance group under the direction of Nikolai Kubar had its first performance. It happened during the celebration of the regional Harvest Day at Olimp Sports Palace in Krasnodar. The ensemble has become the maker of their own history - not long yet but truly popular.
Over the past ten years, the ensemble has staged more than 50 unique dancers. Quite often, it takes them only a month or two to conceive a dance and have it staged and performed. The most popular dances are united in such series as the International Garland of Kuban. Connoisseurs say that Kubar’s Lezghinka, Sandrak, Serbianka, Armenian, Moldovan and Greek dances differ markedly from similar dances produced by other choreographers.
All ethnic dances are historically correct: Maestro is used to studying documents in archives and museums, ethnic customs and traditions before getting down to work. Both the costumes and music are very well thought-out.
In the past two or three years, the troupe has achieved big heights in dancing arts. Their dances have become extremely sophisticated and need hard work and professionalism from the artists.
The ensemble has participated in different international activities, like the opening and closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics 2014 or F1 qualification round in Sochi. The Cossack Dance by Nikolai Kubar was called ‘the heart of the Winter Paralympics 2014’, and the program entitled Russian Fair and presented at the ASEAN summit was reportedly ‘most stunning’. Other latest performances included the World Choir Games in Sochi and Great Russian Word festival in Yalta.
On September 10-11, the Kuban Cossack Spirit will perform at the open-air festival in Moscow, where the Kuban dancers were given a standing ovation.
