Three footballers from the Krasnodar region will play for the Russian national team leaving for France to the European Championship later this month. What can we expect from them?

Two weeks ago, the Russian Football Union approved the list of 33 best footballers of the national season. Three players of FC Krasnodar were on it: the halfback Pavel Mamaev, the centre forward Fedor Smolov, and Dmitri Torbinsky. The trio has been included into the national team.

Today FC Krasnodar is the club that revivifies the careers of players that were otherwise considered as too elderly or not able to prove their worth. To a certain extent, that is true as regards all the three players. A problem may be that in France, our fellow townsmen will have to prove their efficiency in matches with teams of a completely different level than that they are used to in the national championship. Besides, Torbinsky may have to stand against such European grandees as the Welsh Gareth Bale of FC Real or the Slovak Marek Hamšík of FC Napoli.
