Reportedly, some 7,000 Chinese tourists visited the region in 2014 (the year of the Olympic Games in Sochi), followed by some 5,000 in 2015.
A rise of the tourist inflow from China was an issue of the meeting between the Krasnodar City authorities, Russian tourist companies and a delegation of Chinese travel agencies.
The head of the Chinese delegation noted that his country wants to expand its tourist links with Russia, but at the moment it is only Moscow and St. Petersburg that have been popular with the Chinese tourists.
"This is our first trip to the Krasnodar region. We are ready to promote actively the possibilities of recreation and travelling around South Russia among our compatriots", he was quoted as saying.
In their turn, the Russian travel agencies said that they are receiving from three to five groups of Chinese tourists a year, while they may receive as many as 200 or 300.
The Krasnodar region has organized an information tour for the journalists of major Chinese media and travel agencies.
The Chinese delegation that included correspondents and editors from the Xinhua News Agency, Guanming Daily newspaper, China Radio International, and the China News online portal, visited two cities - Krasnodar and Sochi.
