Krasnodar, 2 July – Yug Times. The areas of tea plantations will reportedly be increased in the ethnic Circassian Shapsug auls (villages).
At present, the Circassian mountain settlements not far from the Black Sea coast have become a favourite place for tourists coming every day to taste tea, and to learn about the history and life of the Circassian Shapsugs. During the warm season, up to a thousand tourists and holidaymakers attend tea tastings per day.
Tea plantations are spread on the slope near Bolshoi Kichmai village. Once they belonged to the large state farm "Lazarevsky," but were abandoned after it collapsed. Ten years ago local farmers decided to resume tea production. From April until October, they pick tea by hand every two to three weeks. Tourists travelling to the Black Sea coast can also take part in this process. High-altitude slopes, southern sun, evergreen tea plantations – for urban dwellers this is a form of active recreation and entertainment. The tea factory is located next to the plantations. On special bamboo racks, the tea is brought to the point of perfection.
