Krasnodar, 23 June – Yug Times. Our today’s interviewee is Aleksei Lvov-Belov, Principal and Artistic Director of L. Gatov Krasnodar Creative Association ‘Premiere.’

Q.: This year the Musical Theatre celebrates its 90th anniversary. What was memorable about the previous season?

A.: In 2020, we chose to develop two main classical areas – opera and classical ballet. If these two domains reach a proper height, then all other our genres will also develop successfully. Following this trend, we staged Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Russian opera Iolanta (16+). We had a very beautiful production, directed by Andrei Sergeyev, our newcomer. Then we managed to accomplish a long-planned project – Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonic fairy-tale “Peter and the Wolf” (0+).

In addition, the children’s fairy-tale “Masha and Vitya vs. Wild Guitars” (0+) was presented to the audience before the New Year. It also was a great success. It is a magical, modernised story, in which the main roles are played by children – actors from the children’s studio of the Musical Theatre. They work like adults, playing fantastically sincerely and with great dedication.

Q.: How did the attendance of performances and concerts change compared to previous seasons?

A.: We can say that now we have more spectators, which is nice, because after the pandemics we saw exodus of the audience. People were scared. Now these feelings are over, and spectators are coming to our productions. If in the past, the occupancy rate was 60-70 per cent, now it reaches 80-90 per cent. The best known productions such as Swan Lake (12+), The Nutcracker (12+), The Sleeping Beauty (6+), The Master and Margarita (16+), and Anna Karenina (16+) always have a full house.
