Krasnodar, 9 February. Scientists of the Sochi Geographic Society have decided to withdraw 25 wild animals from the safari park located in Akhshtyr Village.
The decision was based on the communication made by one of the park workers who was anxious about the fate of the animals that were not used to the frosts that came uptown. She asserted that nearly 500 animals had been kept in awful conditions.
The issue of animal housing in this park was raised last summer, when information about the exhausted camels appeared in social media.
“The following surviving animals were rescued: corsac foxes, porcupines, coatis, guinea pigs, mongooses, rabbits, sea-eagles, an eagle-owl, an imperial eagle, racoons and jackals; a decision is pending about the bear and camels. Altogether, 25 animals have been rescued, including some rare species. Now we are deciding on their further keeping. Some animals are in safety, they are fed, but some are still feeling stress,” said Aleksandr Zobnin, Chairperson of the Sochi Geographic Society.
Only smaller animals have been taken from the park, while such big animals as bears and camels still remain there. The police are checking the information.
