Krasnodar, 10 January. According to the Sochi City Hall, over 190,000 tourists visited Sochi during the New Year holidays. During the nine nonworking days, 67,000 persons stayed at hotels in the mountain clusters, with another 65,500 holidaymakers visiting the local skiing resorts.
“Of course, the weather had made adjustments for the alpine skiing fans: their number was a little bit lower [than planned]. On the other hand, the occupancy at the seacoast remained at the level of last year. The warm sunny days compensated for the absence of snow and possibilities for skiing,” Mayor Aleksei Kopaigorodsky said. Altogether, the alpine resorts hosted over 80 cultural and entertaining events. The most sought-after tourist destinations in Greater Sochi were the Riviera and Arboretum Parks, the Sky Park, and the Enclosure Facility of the Caucasian Nature Reserve.
As for some interesting facts: during the holiday period, Sochi residents and guests ate 140,000 khachapuris, and 40,000 times ordered goatfish in cafés and restaurants.
