Krasnodar, 16 August. The total volume of sparkling wines crafted in the Krasnodar region in the first six months of this year is by 45% more than in the same period of 2021, Roskachestvo Russian quality system experts announced at a press conference held in Taman, Temriuk rayon last week. Roskachestvo experts carry out regular audits of the southern Russian wineries, and monitor general quality trends in the industry.
“In Krasnodar krai, 1,009 hectares of new vineyards have been planted in 2022. The initial plan for this year was 1,500 hectares, but now we see that we can plant about 800 hectares by the end of the year. We expect a good yield of about 200,000 to 210,000 tons,” Simon Cherepnin, Head of the Department of Viticulture and Winemaking Industry of the regional Ministry of Agriculture, said.
The experts noted that the positive wine production dynamics will to a considerable extent depend upon the growing area of the grapevine nurseries operating in the region. “It is important to continue to perfect the competitive ability of Russian wineries. This year has become a year of improved quality of sparkling and rosé wines which were less dependent on the weather. This assessment was given based on the tasting of over 550 brands of Kuban wines,” Artur Sarkisian, head of Roskachestvo’s expert group, commented.
