Krasnodar, 7 January. In 2021, over 1,700 hectares of fruit orchards were reportedly laid in Krasnodar Krai.
Last week, Vice Governor Andrei Korobka spoke about the record yield of fruits and berries and the development of gardening in the Kuban region.
“We kept the lead in Russia in the yield of fruits and berries. Last year, we gathered a record 560,000 tons, by 139,000 tons more than in 2020. The area of the newly laid orchards is 1,780 hectares. New fruit storages are built to provide local dwellers and visitors with fresh domestically grown products,” Mr. Korobka announced.
According to him, the capacity of the fruit storages grew from 253,000 up to 307,000 tons. In particular, the construction of the second phase of one of the largest fruit storages with the capacity of 50,000 tons was completed last year. Andrei Korobka also informed that the government support of gardening approximated 727 million roubles from both the federal and the regional budgets.
“There are support programs for small farmers involved in gardening. The regional grant program “A small orchard” is targeted at young farms (working one year maximum), helping them get a grant to plant an intensive garden,” Mr. Korobka added.
