Skiers Look Forward to Snow

Krasnodar, 19 November. The weather forecast looks advantageously for the upcoming winter tourist season in the Kuban region. In Sochi, the alpine skiing season may begin in mid-December. According to weather forecasters, stable snow cover good for alpine skiing will be formed by then, Aleksandr Kolesnik, Deputy Director of the Regional Centre for Monitoring and Forecast of Natural and Manmade Emergency Situations, said. 

“It is likely that the winter recreational season may open by mid-December as far as skiing is concerned. The temperature background will be supporting it. I tend to do such forecast relying on the amount of precipitation over this year – it should suffice to form stable snow cover,” the weather forecaster noted. 

There are two factors that are required for the stable snow cover good for alpine skiing and snowboarding – the amount of precipitation and the air temperature able to retain the snow.
