Krasnodar, 9 November. The sowing of winter crops has finished in the Kuban region, Governor Veniamin Kondratiev announced.
He noted that the farmers are expecting to get high yields due to the high-quality seeds.
“We are developing national selective programs, and the share of domestic selection grows every year,” he stressed. “This year, 417,000 tons of locally selected seeds were used for the future harvest. The purchase of elite varieties is subsidized from the regional and federal budgets.”
The regional authorities also reminded that the fulfillment of the autumn sowing campaign proved successful due to the upgraded agricultural tools and mechanisms: lately, the Kuban farmers are buying mostly locally made state-of-theart agricultural machines. As a result, the energy security of the farms is growing – now its average is 198 hp per 100 hectares, which is one of the highest figures nationwide.
Winter crops have been sown in the area of 1.8 million hectares, including over 1.6 million hectares of wheat and 179,000 hectares of barley.
