Krasnodar, 6 October. A direct sea link will soon be opened between Sochi and Trabzon, Turkey, Sochi Mayor Aleksei Kopaigorodsky announced last week.
Ferry traffic with Turkey was suspended in 2013 according to the safety provisions before the 2014 Winter Olympics.
“The recommencement of the ferry traffic will undoubtedly be important for the development of the resort [city of Sochi]. When fulfilled, it will make it possible to reduce the prices for fruits and vegetables in the city – now they arrive by trucks from Novorossiysk and Tuapse, from 200 to 400 tons of fruits and vegetables every week,” Mr. Kopaigorodsky wrote in his official Telegram account.
The resumption of the ferry traffic will also allow to relieve pressure on the federal motor roads.
In addition to freight ferries, the recommencement plan includes cruises to Turkey which will diversify leisure activities of local dwellers and holidaymakers and help open new jobs, Sochi Mayor stated.
