Krasnodar, 22 July. Last week, Krasnodar Regional Prosecutor Sergei Tabelsky visited Utrish Reserve in Anapa.

In August 2020, the Reserve experienced a heavy fire which resulted in irretrievable loss of valuable wood species in the area of about 120 hectares. Then the Prosecutor’s Office opened a fire-related criminal case regarding dereliction of duty. The prosecutors revealed serious offences which had contributed to the breakout of the fire.

The top management of the Reserve reported that now access of outsiders into the protected area is restricted. They organized daily patrolling along fire-prevention routes, installed information stands, and purchased additional fire-fighting facilities.

However, Mr. Tabelsky said that supplies of fire-extinguishing appliances are insufficient; it is necessary to increase the stock of fire-fighting kits and specialized tools, as well as the number of dismounted patrols that should suppress illegal visiting of the Reserve and promptly reveal the fire seats. He also noted that water reservoirs must be installed in certain places.
