Krasnodar, 23 June. Regional deputies have proposed to increase the frequency of suburban trains to alleviate road congestions.

The initiative was announced at a joint meeting of the Ministry of Transport, Department for Prices and Tariffs, and transport companies.

According to the Legislative Assembly Chairperson Yuri Burlachko, the existing restrictions on trips abroad and the decision taken by many countries to close their borders for tourists affected the demand for holidaymaking at Kuban resorts. At the beginning of this summer, nearly all accommodation properties reported they would be fully booked until the end of the high season. Mr. Burlachko expressed his concern about the transport accessibility of Kuban resorts.

“We have to do our best not to let the road to the seaside sadden people’s holidays. Having this in view, we will have to shift the focus of passenger traffic to the advantage of railway transport which is the safest and schedule-compliant conveyance. Now there are serious traffic jams well short of major resorts, and the tourists’ assumptions that they may save time by using their own cars or buses would not justify. At the same time, the trains are plying according their timetable,” Yuri Burlachko noted. He also made it clear that under the current conditions the use of railway transport may be the only choice.
