Krasnodar, 15 October – Yug Times. Until the end of this year, 37 fallow-deer will reportedly be let out into the wild.
This is an annual work performed by the regional Ministry of Forestry. Last week, eighteen deer were let out in the state natural zoological reserve Krasnaya Gorka near Anapa.
“It was our first letting out of deer into the natural habitat this year,” Oleg Sizonov, deputy minister said. He explained that the necessity to breed deer appeared because of the significant reduction of the quantity of wild hogs – a popular game – due to the African swine fever epidemic. Because of that, it was decided to replace the wild hogs with alternative species of hoofed animals.
The first lot consisting of 72 fallow-deer were brought to the enclosure of the Belorechensk zoological reserve in May 2015. Currently, there are 135 adult animals in the enclosure. The plans for the future are to keep there constantly about a hundred animals of breeding stock.
