Krasnodar, 24 July – Yug Times. At the height of the summer season, attempts of uttering false money became more often in Krasnodar province. If some two years ago, the most frequently forged notes were one-thousand-rouble bills, now time has come for two-thousand counterfeit notes. The swindlers are making use of the fact that these notes are not very well spread so far, and few shop assistants know how to distinguish a fake note from a genuine one.
In 2017, 30 persons were detained for uttering false money; in 2018, their number was 20; since the beginning of this year, 19 swindlers were detained. If in the past false money arrived to our region from North Caucasus, now it is mostly sold through Internet. An average price for a fake 5,000-rouble bill is 2,000 roubles; a 2,000-rouble note costs 700 roubles. The age of the counterfeiters has also gone down: now they are mainly young men aged 25 or less, active users of Internet; more than 70% of them are drug addicts. The websites offering fake money give instructions how to sell it so that not to be caught. The advice is to sell such notes in the afternoon, when shops have enough change, dressed tidily but inconspicuously.
Most frequently, counterfeit notes are uttered in small shops and open-air markets which do not have banknote authentication devices and CCTV cameras that may track and detect the criminals.
During the summer season, several fake notes are withdrawn every day. According to the police, their quality is becoming higher: the counterfeiters have learnt to make notes with watermarks, visible when the note is held up to the light, and raised inscriptions that can be felt by touch. This is why, it is often very difficult to detect a fake note.
