Krasnodar, 16 January – Yug Times. The commission dates of the Palace of Aquatic Sports on the campus of the Basket Hall, the sports complex with a swimming pool at Yubileiny neighbourhood, and the indoor track of the Kuban State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism (all to be built in Krasnodar) have reportedly been postponed for a year or more. Why?
We asked the regional Ministry for Physical Culture and Sports for a comment, but they asserted that they have nothing to do with these projects. So The Yug Times has decided to perform own investigation.
The would-be Palace of Aquatic Sports to be located on the campus of the Basket Hall was conceived as part of the grandiose City of Sports. As on now, its main constructions have already been erected, and the project is ready by 45% or so. When then Russia’s Minister of Sports Vitali Mutko inspected the construction site last spring, he was informed that the project would be completed in 2020. Presently, the date has been postponed to 2021. The time will show whether the deadline will be put off even more.
The construction of the swimming pool at Yubileiny residential neighbourhood, close to Lyceum No. 90 began in 2013, but in 2016, when the contractor was found to have deviated from the original project, the works were suspended. The contractor was debarred from the project, and finally the contract with it was cancelled by court in 2017. The conclusion of the state expert examination of the project documents for the construction of the swimming pool is to be received during the first quarter of this year. We shall see what will happen.
The fate of the indoor track of the University of Physical Culture is as sad as that of the previous two projects: its commission has so far been postponed for over a year. The federal budget has already paid 383.2 million roubles to repair the track. Initially it was planned that the works would be completed in 2017, but then the activities were frozen, and the commission date was put off to 2018 - which never happened, either.
