Krasnodar, 19 December – Yug Times. Last week, the Olimp Palace of Sports in Krasnodar played host to the closing ceremony of the Volunteers’ Year.
The event was attended by public activists, members of volunteer centres, and winners of regional and national thematic competitions. The best volunteers were awarded for their contribution to the movement and fulfilment of projects in the Krasnodar region.
The 27,000 strong volunteer movement of the Kuban region unites those who take it as their calling to render aid and take care of the needy, and to give part of themselves for the sake of other people.
In 2018, the volunteers took an active part in the organisation of the Football World Cup and Formula 1; they helped the victims of flooded locations during the flood in autumn, and opened asylums for homeless animals.
The closing ceremony summoned about 2,000 volunteers from all corners of the region. With the end of the year, their good deeds will not stop, because their desire to help other people is catching.
Although it was difficult to distinguish the best philanthropist, that work was done: 35 volunteers were awarded personally by Governor Veniamin Kondratiev.
“The Volunteers’ Year is coming to a close, and it was a peculiar year for us,” he said.
“We thank you for your work, for your determination to help your country, region, city or village. Whatever you did, whatever job you chose, whatever heights you may achieved, and however old you may be - you are distinguished by your desire to be useful for the society, for other people. Do not leave the chosen way.” The Volunteers’ Year in Russia has nearly finished, but the volunteers will continue their work - for it is a mighty force of kindness that must not be stopped.
