Krasnodar, 16 November – Yug Times. The Yug Times weekly proceeds with its series of publications about the Triumph contest.
He does not paint Kuban fields or marine landscapes. His paintings, filled with energy and mysticism, may be scrutinized for hours, trying to decipher the mystery encrypted on the canvas. The contemporary artist Sergei Yashin is not afraid to be unapprehended – thus his daring and unusual oeuvres attract even those people who stay afar from arts.
The Kovalenko Art Museum in Krasnodar was a full house on the Night of Art. Thousands of visitors came to Sergei Yashin’s personal exhibition not only to see his paintings, but also to converse with the master. The visitors that filled the entire hall were taking heed to what Sergei was saying – and he was recounting the history of his paintings. The guests had a chance to see the works from several collections – The Abstraction, Ballet, Geishas, and The Undecrypted.
Presently, most of the canvases from the Ballet collection are stored in museums and private collections in France. “The French like my works, especially the Russian Ballet collection,” Yashin says. “France, and the West in general, deeply respects people of arts; and they have a totally different notion of paintings. The mentality here in Russia is different. After the two revolutions within a century, after all our dramas and tragedies, what we want is something merry, joyful and positive – we want just to look at a painting and admire it. European contemporary art is different. People there like to decipher the mystery the artist hid on his canvas.”
Sergei is often asked how much time he spends per painting. Usually he answers with Pablo Picasso’s quotation: “All life and one moment.” And he explains that he is in constant search of new images to be transferred to canvas. It is the support of his friends and relatives that Sergei Yashin considers as the main secret of his success.
“I am glad and proud that I share the same mind with my family. They sometimes even do not let me sell my works, however much I could earn. They know their real value that cannot be measured with money,” he says.
