Krasnodar, 28 August – Yug Times. The retirement age remains one of the most important and painful issues in the political agenda of the country and its regions.

The society continues to be boiling up: everyone understands that the reform is needed - it is objective reality, because neither Pension Fund nor national economy can cope with the financial coverage of our elderly compatriots. But nobody seems to be eager to work more and longer than now. Thus the interests of the state come into conflict with the interests of the citizens. This is why the federal power s trying to reduce the public temperature by giving sweet promises to the society. While Moscow is preparing these ‘carrots’, a number of public activists have begun campaigning for a national referendum with the question: is it necessary to raise the retirement age? Last week, the Krasnodar regional election commission registered the regional subgroup of the initiative group on holding the national referendum on the increase of the pensionable age.

At the same time, sharp public criticism of the draft law has urged the State Duma to react to the people’s complaints, and it becomes clear that the bill will be significantly amended. The second reading has been scheduled before September 24. Now we can only guess what the final document will look like.
