Krasnodar, 24 August – Yug Times. It is selfevident that the work has an environmental implication: bearing in mind that if recycled, 100 kg of cardboard save one tree, Rosa Khutor has managed to save a grove.
Rosa Khutor has become the first site in Sochi to organise everyday collection of recyclablee resources. The initiative has reportedly brought in tangible results.
In the Sustainable Development Program launched last February in the alpine resort of Rosa Khutor, a special place has been allocated to activities aimed at environmental care. Currently, there are about 200 companies operating at the resort, most hotels, restaurants, and shops that do various purchases and produce waste. This is why, it is so much important to reduce the volumes of the wastes and organise its efficient collection and disposal. If resolved, it would help maintain cleanliness and order along the banks of the Mzymta River, wooded slopes and alpine meadows.
Currently Rosa Khutor is upgrading its recycling practice by organising own service on everyday collection of recyclable wastes. About 50 cafes, restaurants, shops and hotels are already involved in the program - and this involvement helps them save money.
“We must pay 550 to 700 roubles, or even more, to dispose of one cubic metre of garbage from the territory of Rosa Khutor,” Dmitri Kolosov, Director on the resort’s environmental protection and sustainable development, explained. “This is why we encourage the shops, cafes, restaurants and hotels that operate in the resort to take part in our waste collection program. Thereby, our partners reduce their waste disposal expenditures by approximately 30%.”
There is a special service that removes all cardboard, plastic and glass bottles from the shops, bars, restaurants and hotels.
Dmitri Kolosov says that the task of the resort is to organise the system of separate collection so that the ‘useful’ waste should not go into a garbage truck and further to a dump, where it would be putrefying and spoiling the soil, the water and the air. Presently there are several small companies operating in Sochi that collect paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and other useful waste. Mainly, it is sent to waste-regaining plants in the Krasnodar region and beyond.
In May – August 2018, 28 tons of cardboard, 649 kg of plastic containers, 2,600 kg of glossy magazines, 723 kg of plastic film, and 70 kg of foam rubber were reportedly collected in Rosa Khutor.
