Krasnodar, 16 August – Yug Times. The regional and city authorities are reportedly working on a project of upgrading of the historical part of Krasnodar.
It is the special expert council that will determine which constructions to pull down and which to retain. The future of Krasnodar is calling many arguments, but one thing is clear: the reconstruction process will certainly happen. This fact is evident for urbanist enthusiasts as well as for the power, sick and tired to see architectural mayhem from the windows of their offices.
One-storey houses and cramped dormitories, often not equipped with water supply and decent sewage, should disappear from Krasnaya street and the adjacent blocks. Likewise, the downtown is not the right place for the glass ‘sky-scrapers’ and numerous unauthorised constructions erected contrary to the urban-planning rules.
But what will remain in Krasnodar if all architectural chaos created within decades will be removed at once? - The houses designed by architects of the pre-revolutionary Yekaterinodar and Krasnodar of the 1920s. Frankly speaking, many constructions that are over a hundred years old turned into ruins long ago. The only survivors are the houses that some influential people showed interest in and the ones that passed into the careful hands of investors.
